Project Title: One Hope Two Give Postcards
Client Name: Feathersome
Sector: Social Enterprise

The Brief

Feathersome recognized that many young women under 25 years in the community felt isolated and lacked access to supportive online resources. They wanted to create a physical and digital program that not only spread goodwill but also connected recipients to online resources.

“We knew we had to spread hope but primarily we wanted to connect younger people in their social media threads to current and emerging resources online, but starting a program that could fail was daunting,” the founder said.

The Question
How could the project and creative team centralise real time information from front line domestic violence services in Queensland via a social media platform (ie Instagram) to successfully meet the needs of young women fleeing violence?

The Solution

Feathersome launched the One Hope Two Give postcard initiative in partnership with multiple local organizations including Anglicare, Open Haven, Joining Hands and State Library of Queensland. Each practical and beautifully designed postcard was a vehicle for hand-written messages of encouragement and hope from a broad suite of community members. A practical element was the design of space so each message could be captured and successfully uploaded to social media where these messages could be amplified with further community following and also liked by a range of front line services also on social media, creating a ripple effect of online support.

“The community’s response was overwhelming,” Janine shared. “It validated our vision and inspired further engagement.”

The Results

The initiative resulted in 196 postcards delivered and 445 written by individuals from diverse backgrounds. The program engaged 7,481 people online, fostering connections within the community.

“Connecting through these postcards has opened up a new world for many young women and complimented many not-for-profit facilitators,” the founder remarked. “We’ve seen real connections form between survivors and front line services, and even open opportunities like job interviews.”

Conclusion

Working with Feathersome expanded the One Hope Two Give initiative, through print and digital design all while emphasizing the importance of simple acts of kindness.

“If you’re thinking of starting something similar, just go for it. People want to connect; they just need a catalyst,”
